KT200II Offline License Expired: A Safe Recovery Checklist

Published and checked: 3 September 2026

Scope: Non-destructive troubleshooting for the messages “License Expired” and “Update License Error” in a KT200II Offline Workstation environment. This article does not provide license bypasses, copied authorization files, ECU recovery procedures or instructions to weaken Windows security.

Editorial responsibility: Prepared by the ECU Tool Store editorial team from current public product information, Microsoft security guidance and a seller-hosted support note. ECU Tool Store did not independently reproduce every license state described here.

Short answer: A KT200II Offline “License Expired” message does not by itself prove that the dongle or programmer has failed. Record the exact message, software edition and version, hardware edition, dongles connected and activation history before changing anything. The public ECUHELP support note says its reported prompt may lead to an online license update and that an unactivated KT200-to-KT200II upgrade can also produce the error. Treat that as seller guidance, not a universal diagnosis. Confirm that the main unit is eligible for the Offline Workstation, use one known-working network for an authorized refresh, and contact the supplier if the update fails.

Evidence boundary: The cited ECUHELP page is a seller support post. It reports a response to this error but does not publish a complete diagnostic specification, server-status record or compatibility matrix. A successful license refresh confirms only that the relevant authorization step completed; it does not prove ECU compatibility or make an interrupted programming job safe to resume.

First identify which message you actually have

“License Expired” and “Update License Error” describe different points in the same interaction. The first message may be a request to refresh authorization. The second says that the attempted refresh did not finish. Capture both screens, including the exact wording and local time. Do not summarize them as “offline broken,” because support needs to know whether the application opened, whether the license prompt appeared before an ECU was selected and whether the failure happened before or after an update attempt.

Observation What it can establish What it cannot establish
License Expired prompt The application is requesting an authorization action That the USB dongle is defective
Update License Error after confirmation The refresh did not complete in that attempt Whether the cause is network, activation, edition or service availability
Tool was upgraded from KT200 Activation history is relevant to the ticket That the upgrade is activated or offline-eligible
Another PC shows the same message The symptom is reproducible in another environment That reinstalling Windows or replacing files is justified

A safe diagnostic order

1. Stop before changing files

If no ECU read or write has started, close the software normally and disconnect the programmer from the vehicle or bench harness. If an operation is active, preserve stable power and the current screen and obtain live support; a general license checklist is not a recovery procedure. Do not delete DLL files, copy a license file from another unit or install a package from a forum link.

2. Record the exact product and software combination

Photograph the main unit label and both sides of each connected dongle for private support review. Record the software title, version, installer source, Windows edition and whether the unit was sold as Auto, Full, Full plus Offline Workstation or an upgrade. The current ECUToolStore offline-dongle information says the Offline Workstation is intended for compatible KT200II Full hardware and does not turn an Auto unit into Full. Confirm the current product terms before assuming that a white USB device represents a particular license.

3. Verify date, time and one normal network path

Set Windows date, time and time zone automatically, then test the authorized refresh once on a stable connection. If it fails, capture the message and test one alternate normal connection, such as a workshop hotspot. This comparison can help separate local router or provider routing from a repeatable activation problem. Do not cycle through random VPN regions or retry continuously; that destroys a clean timeline and may trigger additional account checks.

4. Confirm activation history with the seller

The ECUHELP note says an upgraded KT200 that has not been activated as KT200II may show this error. Only the authorized supplier can verify the device record behind that claim. Provide the order reference, upgrade history and privately shared device identity. Never post serial numbers, dongle IDs or customer information in public comments.

5. Keep Windows protection in place

Do not disable Microsoft Defender, exclude the entire system drive or open firewall ports to test a license prompt. Microsoft warns that antivirus exclusions reduce protection and that opening ports creates security risk. If authorized support documents a compatibility exception, use the narrowest specific file, folder, process or allowed-app rule permitted by workshop policy, record why it was added and remove it after the controlled test. A license error is not evidence that a security alert is a false positive.

Dongle appearance alone does not prove license eligibility or activation; confirm the device record and current product terms with authorized support.

When to stop and open a support ticket

Stop self-troubleshooting when the hardware edition cannot be confirmed, the installer source is uncertain, the refresh fails on two known-working normal networks, Windows Security reports a threat, the unit was upgraded but activation cannot be verified, or the message appears during an active ECU operation. Reinstallation is not the next automatic step: it can remove logs and make the failure harder to reproduce.

Include the following evidence in one ticket:

  • full screenshots of both messages and their timestamps;
  • software title, version and authorized download source;
  • Windows version, time-zone status and network type;
  • main-unit edition, purchase or upgrade history and dongles connected;
  • whether the application opened before the prompt;
  • results from one primary and one alternate normal network;
  • any Windows Security detection, without disabling protection;
  • whether an ECU operation had started.

Three customer questions

Does “offline” mean the license never needs a connection?

No. “Offline Workstation” describes how supported local operations may run; it does not guarantee that activation, license refresh, virtual-file delivery or every account service is permanently network-free. Confirm the current behavior for the exact software branch and hardware edition.

Should I buy another offline dongle immediately?

No. The error does not identify a failed dongle. First verify edition, activation record, software branch and the response on a controlled network. Buying another accessory cannot correct an ineligible Auto unit or an incomplete upgrade activation.

Can support send me a replacement license file?

Only the authorized provider can decide how a valid device is reauthorized. Do not use files copied from another user or download a license package from an unofficial source. Supply the evidence above so support can match the request to the correct unit without exposing identity information publicly.

Commercial disclosure: ECU Tool Store sells KT200II products and may benefit from related purchases. The troubleshooting guidance above is designed to preserve evidence and reduce unnecessary changes; it is not a promise that a license refresh, workstation or specific ECU operation will succeed.
